Barbie the new pink movie

First of all let me stress once again that I am a Greek who learnt English for a short time then increased his vocabulary from practice, I started my 3rd language This is option lessons in the niche school of economics studying marketing.

This is a long time to visit a 'valley cinema' I m not sure when it was my last time but as far as I can think it was around the late 70s the show was supposed to start at 2045 but started immediately after sunset on 21LT> some problems with cabling and bad screen colors delayed it by a further 15 minutes. This was the 7th and possibly last day of Barbie. The arena was packed to the rafters. The sound is OK and very clear, but the open space limits the ability to provide surround sound etc. It was interesting to note that over 70% of the audience were female. The age of the audience was at least 14 years of teenagers, with most above the 20s and very few on the mature age like me (ei above 50s).

Now back to the movie

wikipedia

The film began with a very funny scene showing girls playing with their Barbie dolls in a supposedly primitive place, until the real and live Barbie appeared in front of them. The girls were too nervous to see her and destroyed their dolls with great passion.

I will try not to reveal more about the film, but rather try to describe my feelings and thoughts step by step while watching the scenes of the film.

At first, the whole film is more than crazy to the point of getting weird, if not embarrassing. Many people in the theater laughed out loud as I did, the above was one of the funniest scenes.

The second embarrassing thing for me was watching the actors play in a completely plastic place, including the sea waves and the beach. Some accidents happened. Not to mention that these plastics are over-magnified  toys accompanied in Barbie's play houses..

Intersting you can see  s o many different barbies as all models Mattel  made i can suppose .A standard Barbie, a fat barbie ,a negro barbie,   a lawyer barbie etc including the self expelled ugly Barbie or how she can be called. this is the same with  Ken and his following roles impersonated by different actors  as  a Chinese ,an Afro etc. Funny a gay Ken or Barbie was in the list LoL .Bad  for Matel if they  already made such a doll and also bad for the story.

The third embarrassment of the story was the crazy transition between the fantasy land and Los Angeles, using various transfer methods including bicycles, plastic cars and more to enter into the real world.

Barbie suffered a culture shock when she was in Los Angeles with Ken. And after suffering more on stealing some costumes to behave or seem more like real people than human dolls.the result was even more funnier!!

In the Mattel building - the company's real building? - the president and his 'apprentices' were hilarious when discussing in order to get some decisions in the director's office. Even the hunt for Barbie was totallly silly , especially when the company president trying to chase her , instead of grabbing her when they met kept running for no reason.  Pretty stupid, huh? These guys behaved very silly in the whole movie.  i can call them 'the stupidmen in black'.

A nice point if after that she met a old woman after entering a door towards  to the unknown . A nice scene but quite embarrassing because  in this buildingit is supposed that no fantastic scenes could be happened in the real world.

When Ken returned to his country and Barbie lived in the real world, everything that happened in the ,fantasy  place  affected the real world with new viral dolls! They see Ken's revenge in a wrong way.

The movie has a quite fast pace,  bad pop music mixed with rather funny lyrics . The dialogues are instead he only thing I liked . A few times the  subtitles  were changed so fast that I cold not afford to read  them . I normally am a a quite fast reader. Intro and outro tittles are shown in a childish way close to the typical children  movies

Most of the story shows a feminist point of view and how Barbie helped women to get better jobs and to manage their lives better within society for all these years so far.

There is a fruitful subtext that requires some more depth to understand. Sasha The daughter of Gloria the ex-designer of Barbie was the possibly the most correct [?] thinking person to be shown part of a directed truth from the politically 'leftwing side'. Miserous women suffered  under the #me_too hashtag there or internationally We nearly  every week have such cases in Greece. In that point we see Barbara and Sasha stunned by her mother making some very sad caricatures of a possibly future Barbie in tears. or in pain .. Another stunning point for me.

Many on imdb have stressed that this film is a satire with many political projections. I partly agree with them about the word satire. This humor is quite awkward with language better suited to people over 12. I saw a review in imdb that the older people were laughing with some scenes though the children were just watching, there was a scene with Ken speaking nasty with truncated word... (asshole?) and once with barbies non-existent vagina though Ken having a real penis...

The only normal scenes were with the grandma suggesting Barbie to decide if she wants to continue as doll or human, this scene was also another impressive scene.

The ending is rather predictable after Ken has done everything up to down in the fake puppet society and on how them and those returned to the regular life ... but in a different  way. Barbie however was unpredictable.

Margot played well as Ken with the mother-child pair.

I ms sure that my daughter  will not understand  anything from this movie. She is just 14 but hates reading...

Barbbubish : this is what we call  in Greece barb-utsala . This nonstandard and funny word translates as 'rubbish' or 'nonsense'  although its original meaning is blackthorn or prunus spinosa. This once again  fits perfect to this movie concatenating Barbie and Rubbish in a humorous word play

Barbie is visually and directorily barbubbish
Only dialoguely is interesting

This is a post in a movies FC page using my method to play with words while typing in smartphone on local midnight. None seem to understand on what I meant although some thinking is necessary to decipher he meanings.Someone other  reading that denied to answer to  the quiz even if i limited the text to the adverbial forms

Visually and directorily  nonsense : visually bad   as the direction and scenics of the movie
Dialoguely :in terms of dialogues. The word is just designed to fit the style of the remain two 'made' adverbs .

Its very possible  to watch the movie again and soon.

Barbie

This movie was a big hype not only in the internet but also in the local radio and tv. This was a good reason to watch this movie. It was watched in a open place cinema. The audience flooded it more than its limit with a rate of 70/30 of females vs males.

Let me be more results oriented.

The movie was a rather hilarious with lots of funny scenes starting from the very start. Also think that he main scene in Barbie land was a place with plenty of plastic ware all highly magnified with real actors. She and Ken found a culture shock reaching the real world. Dialogues in the second half were quite deep giving a rather different moral then we cold expect raising the IQ of the movie until the end when barbie took a rather unexpected decision for her future life. Many political projections too definitely a movie for teens than children Generally the movie was quite bizarre in most of the story. Main actors were quite good

Rating 6/10 the end was more interesting.

And here is another version  that was  ready for posting just in case the above would nt be posted

This movie was a big hype not only in the internet but also in the local radio and tv. This was a  good reason to watch this movie before advising my daughter to watch this mvbie with her boyfriend   I seen that an open cinema. The audience flooded the place beyond its limit (600 seats )with a rate of 70/30 of females vs males!

Quite fast paced and with rather flat characters except Ken barbie and real mother/ daughter. Te part with  the real people - the ex designer and her daughter as the old woman gave a better push of barbie's character towards  her final decisions for her future life. (also best part )
Generally the movie was rather  bizarre and sarcastic than satirical as other called.
Best for teenagers and above but not for my daughter . I m sure hat she wil not  understand anything..

Rating 6/10 the end was more interesting and fll of morals
