En coprs/ Rise movie review 2022
A Diamond of a Film About Life's Restartrrr
There are films that touch you. And there are films that change you. En Corps — known in Greece as The Last Dance — belongs to the second category. It's not just a film about dance. It's a film about falling and rising. About how a woman loses everything — and finds herself.
Marion Barbeau — a real dancer, not an actress pretending to be one — in the role of Elise. And that makes all the difference. She doesn't "play" dance. She lives it. Every movement, every breath, every glance is real. It's not acting. It's presence.
The story: a young ballerina, during a performance, makes some sudden movements and nearly breaks her leg. The accident leaves her with a post-traumatic condition — not just physical, but psychological. She loses her partner, her career, her sense of self. But with the help of the right people — a contemporary dance group in Brittany — she manages to restore balance in her life. To make a reboot — not just in dance, in a different way, but in her very life.
A blend of music from the beginning of the film — between classical and rock — creates a very nice feeling and sense of transition.
This film carries beautiful messages. I would call it a book of life. A diamond of a film!
It's absolutely worth seeing!
In my personal estimation, the film is neither a comedy nor a drama. Its mode is more realistic — like its characters. It doesn't try to make you laugh. It doesn't try to make you cry. It tries to make you feel. And it succeeds.
8/10
