Damsel (2024 )

from imdb

So I checked out this new movie on Netflix called Damsel. It just came out in March and seems to be pretty popular right now.

At first I thought it was gonna be one of those lollywater  fairy tale things with a princess getting married to a prince. But nope, there's a twist right away! Turns out this innocent girl gets kidnapped by an angry dragon just as she's about to tie the knot.

The dragon used to be the king of the local mountains before humans came and took over. So now he's pisssed and out for revenge, chasing this poor girl all over the place. At first he seems like a total nightmare, but by the end he's not as scary as I thought.

The adventurous parts with the main character Elodie trying to escape were actually pretty fun. She's really resourceful after growing up in a tough situation, with her village always struggling for food. Her dad arranged the marriage mostly just to get some money.

The end of the movie although predictive is the big twist of the sorry..

It was an entertaining movie overall but I did have a few questions:
How is this dragon still alive after so long? And how can he even talk to humans? That seems weird hundreds of years later. Also, is the groom's family immortal too if they've been around as long as the dragon? And how did one of the other kidnapped girls ever manage to escape the mountains to make a map? You'd think one of them would have figured it out sooner.
So based on the entertainment value, I'd give Damsel a solid 6 or 7 out of 10. It's a fun silly adventure but doesn't really answer any of the big logic holes! Still an easy watch if you need something new to check out.
