12 Years a Slave

With thanks to netflix once again I have watched a block buster movie that not only impresses but also shocks and puts the term slavery to the point as it I based in Solomon’s  Northup real story as directed by the well known actor Steve MC Queen

At first  let me claim that the movie is quit slow so that it could be cut for around 25-30 minutes shorter. Its length is around 130 minutes

The story is quite hard to watch especially with  brutally scourging   scenes similar to the ‘Passions of Christ” hen he was ordered to hit a woman or even on how they were living in separate areas  form the boss house etc.

I was a deep kick to my stomach on how slave Africans were treated among the free whites as kind of trade. The motto “ my interest for money is more important than slave families” was the most disgusting from the trader.  

A free afro woman called him as Nigro

Because he attained too much with his profession as musician or mechanic engineer he was under protection of his boss The then obliged to be less ‘arrogant; to protect himself from conflicts You see him continuously with a sad expression that proves on how Afros are felt under this malaise.  Adverse situations of living with limited time of  joy that is rally the joy  of their bosses to dance for example but remains  chores …

And finally discussing with a Canadian home constructor who believed that all races are te same regardless of colors helped him get again his free life he was vindicated

 

The story is definitely impressive 8/10
