MOVIE REVIEW: C'est la vie (La vita va così)

Rating: 12/10 🌟 that means i m much more than enthused 

This was the very first movie I watched in theaters for the new cinema season, right as screenings kicked off in my city! Having seen the trailer in the theater about two months ago, I went in fully prepared for a film that would definitely deliver a lot of laughs. In the end, it turned out to be so much more than that.

The Plot

The core story is simple: an 80-year-old grandfather lives in a small village in the southern part of Sardinia, inside his Furriadroxu, where his ancestors have lived for over four centuries. He is deeply connected to his home as well as to his animals, which he takes to the beach every single day.

The village is almost completely dead, as most people have left seeking a better standard of living and better job opportunities. The few remaining residents (around 50 to 70 people) are all soufromeni (shriveled and subdued) . When a construction company shows up, their buyout offers keep skyrocketing into dizzying figures—reaching staggering amounts like 10 million euros!

One particularly interesting part of the film was when the entire village tried to convince him to sell, yet not a single one of the seventy inhabitants succeeded! Even the priest went to try and change his mind...

What Stands Out

• The Lead Performance: The actor playing the grandfather simply shined with his posture and character, and his daughter was equally exceptional.

• Scenery & Cinematography: Beyond the script, the coastal landscape and the entire region were breathtaking, captured with incredible cinematography.

• Language & Atmosphere: The heavy local dialect of the region was fascinating to hear and gave the movie a genuine, authentic touch.

The Messages

The ending of the film, in particular, carried so many powerful messages. That alone makes it worth watching. It reminds us that:

"What makes life worthwhile isn't money, but the beauty of the people and the place they call home."

"Even though the world evolves, our minds often stay the same."

Conclusion

A film full of substance, vivid imagery, and genuine emotion. I comfortably give it a 12 out of 10!
