how to train your dragon 2025 (human actoirs )

Image
imdb  As it turns out, this is the first production in the franchise to feature real, live-action people — and the first one I've personally seen. I watched it directly through a Nova channel, almost from start to finish, though in the end it didn't exactly blow me away. It's a product of its time, with both strengths and weaknesses. It's not something you'll remember for long, but it has a certain charm you can't ignore. The real interest, however, lies elsewhere. It's the idea of an older era where dragons were used as a means of transport — living creatures that fly, carry people, and survive on minimal food. That concept, however simple it sounds, gives the film its own identity. What the Critics Are Saying The film has received generally positive reviews from critics, holding an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 61 on Metacritic . However, many reviewers note that it follows the original 2010 animated film almost beat-for-beat. James Ber...

the drop (2024) review

Image
A widow with a young child books a dinner date at one of the most expensive restaurants in town through a social dating app called Drop. She arrives on time, ready for a fresh start. But then her phone starts buzzing—a stranger begins messaging her, threatening to kill her date unless she follows his commands. What follows is a tense, fast-paced thriller that unfolds entirely within the restaurant. The film uses clever visual effects—text messages, blueprints, and diagrams appear on walls, tables, and even the ceiling, mapping out every corner of the venue as the situation escalates. The lead actress delivers a powerful performance—you can feel her panic, her desperation, and her determination to save a man she barely knows. Her date is equally convincing, and their chemistry makes you root for them both. The pacing is relentless, and things move even faster as the film races toward its climax. It's a simple but effective concept, executed with style and tension. ...

the drone (2023 greek shnort movie )

Image
A short film, barely 20 minutes long, with a single, relentless source of tension. The story follows a drone that behaves less like a machine and more like an annoying mosquito—or perhaps a persistent pest—making Christina's life a living hell. Finally, she grabs a piece of wood, smashes the drone into pieces, and throws it into a small river. She gathers her things, gets in her car, and drives back home with her children. The film feels like a missed opportunity. A film with a runtime this brief relies on tight logic and a clear message to land its impact. This one stumbles on both counts. The Big Question: The mysterious man operating the drone—presumably using it to photograph Christina's... assets rather than the island's scenery—makes a fleeting appearance at the end when their cars nearly collide. The film tries to frame this as a meaningful encounter, but it arrives too late and with too little context to matter. My main issues: Drones need charging...

Life is life (La vita va così) 2025 movie review

Image
MOVIE REVIEW: C'est la vie (La vita va così) Rating: 12/10 🌟 that means i m much more than enthused  This was the very first movie I watched in theaters for the new cinema season, right as screenings kicked off in my city! Having seen the trailer in the theater about two months ago, I went in fully prepared for a film that would definitely deliver a lot of laughs. In the end, it turned out to be so much more than that. The Plot The core story is simple: an 80-year-old grandfather lives in a small village in the southern part of Sardinia, inside his Furriadroxu , where his ancestors have lived for over four centuries. He is deeply connected to his home as well as to his animals, which he takes to the beach every single day. The village is almost completely dead, as most people have left seeking a better standard of living and better job opportunities. The few remaining residents (around 50 to 70 people) are all soufromeni  (shriveled and subdued) . When a construction ...

Image

Kyuka – Before Summer’s End moview review

Image
There are movies that captivate you with a tight plot, and then there are "mood films" that drift along with the summer tide. Kyuka – Before Summer’s End (2024), directed by Kostis Charamountanis, falls squarely into the latter—and frankly, it left me completely underwhelmed. The Plot in a Nutshell A single father takes his two young adult children on a sailing trip to a Greek island, secretly hoping to orchestrate a family reunion with his ex-wife.A feminish boy and a a real  girl  Meanwhile, the kids hit the beach and quickly strike up a friendship with two sisters. The families eventually gather alongside the sisters' father. What starts as a pleasant joint hangout turns into total disaster over the most ridiculous detail: the protagonist claims to be an avid fisherman during a period when fish have disappeared from the sea, only for the other father to discover he actually bought his "catch of the day" from a local shop! What Other Bloggers & Critics...

Anora 2025 , extended review

Image
from imdb   Anora (2024): From Awkward Chaos to an Awesome, High-Octane Comedy-Drama A rather awkward, almost jarring start that unexpectedly turns into something truly 'awesome'—pun intended. I caught this movie with my wife a few days ago, and after an initial 'shock' involving the wild, neon-lit nightlife, pole dancing, and raw strip-club culture, what began as a stormy romance suddenly twisted into a brilliantly executed, chaotic action-comedy. The story centers on Vanya, a 21-year-old immature Russian bachelor living in the US on his oligarch parents' endless dime. Preferring non-stop partying over attending school, he meets Ani (Anora) at her workplace. Fascinated by her, their whirlwind romance escalates rapidly until a spontaneous trip to Las Vegas ends in an official marriage. However, the plot hits a high-energy turning point when his father's henchmen arrive to annul the union. Vanya bolts, triggering an extraordinarily long, frantic chase through N...

It Could Happen to You (1994) movie review / ENG + GR

Image
imdb image   better say: the 2M tip  ( the Greek title)  A 90s Classic with a Heavy Punch A classic film from the mid-90s, starring our beloved Nicolas Cage as Charlie Lang , a kind-hearted police officer who always does the right thing. His wife, Muriel (played by Helen Hunt ), constantly pressures him to be a bit more cunning to make more money. But not everyone is cut out to be that way. In this review, I'm not going to follow the usual path — I want to explore how his wife proved to be completely unworthy of him. The Promise and the Jackpot Our hero Charlie made a promise to a waitress, Yvonne ( Bridget Fonda ), who was at the edge of despair. He promised that if he won the lottery, he would share the winnings with her. When Charlie won 4 million dollars , true to his word, he split the money with her. And that's where the trouble begins with his wife. The arrogant, narcissistic Muriel reacted by throwing his clothes out of the house and humiliatin...

Image

A Musical Exchange Between Two Worlds

Image
How a 1950s Japanese Bar Song Became a Greek Folk Classic The Mystery of "Tokyo Anna" In my previous article, I mentioned a song called "Tokyo Anna" by Yoshiko Otsu. It was one of the 16 singles my father had brought from Japan. While it wasn't among my absolute favorites, it was still a tune I had grown accustomed to hearing. When I once asked my father who this lady might be, he guessed she was probably some kind of heroine.   The reality, however, was quite different. According to the lyrics, the song describes more of a geisha—or rather, a woman of the night. The official Japanese lyrics by Tadashi Yoshida, as sung by Yoshiko Otsu, reveal that "Anna" symbolizes the beautiful, exotic woman of Tokyo's nightlife scene in the 1950s. Here are the translated full lyrics :Treading on the rainbow of lights, A rose that opens the night of Ginza. Ah, who calls the dancer? Her name is Anna, Tokyo Anna, Anna of the rumors./Soft skin hidden beneath ...

The Personal Story of a Song – shattering a Musical Dream

Image
How a Childhood Memory, a Broken Record, and AI Finally Solved a 60-Year Mystery When I was a child, I used to play with some records my father had brought back from Japan. There were 16 vinyl records in total, from around the early 1960s—just a few years after I was born. Among these records, there were three different types: One 78 RPM record Two sets of delicate, thin plastic sheets, single-sided, tucked inside offset booklets of the era, filled with extensive information about Japanese customs, dance methods, and song lyrics And finally, twelve 45 RPM vinyl records in sleeves, usually with a photo of the artist on the front and lyrics for both sides on the back That's how, over the years, I began to learn Japanese writing—through those very lyrics. The Song That Got Stuck in My Head Many of these songs I learned to sing just as I heard them. But one of them became permanently lodged in my brain. Time passed, and this particular...
