7 zip a nice archiver  file manager and free program

This is a fast written  blog. Looked to download a file  and it required  the 7z file format in order to be downloaded in its 'zipped' format otherwise i could download the excitable  with installer.

This made me look a bit in the 7zip  web page  located on : http://www.7-zip.org/

On that page there was  also a handy reference between 5 packagers showing 7z  as the winner in compression over firefox and  Google earth  files

But is the format capable as best compressor   in between  the most common formats?

I made a new directory , adding   several different formats  of files, compressed each file separately by 7zip , winrar and rar's zip, adjusting them in their  the highest compression.

Below is the printing of the directory with the dir line command:

 immediately shown : 7z and rar  are the clear winners over the zip with 10% of the zip file!!! with 55,65  times slower size over the uncompressed avi

rar is 7.45% bigger than 7z (very small difference )

This is a file from my photo camera of 6 MP on the low quality level . The results are very clear about 95%  of the original
Here the rar   is the smallest with 0.06% being the 7z over the rar

And finally looking into the  directory of the  firefox wonder edition , one of the portable editions of firefox together with  irts components caches and cookies a total of 925  files …. 7z goes better than rar  but took longer to compress by ca 40%
