Grandmas, Guilt Trips, and Matchmaking: Netflix’s Sen İnandır

If you’ve ever made the tragic mistake of letting your Mediterranean or Aegean grandmother know you’re single past the age of 22, Netflix’s Turkish rom-com Sen İnandır (Make Me Believe) will feel less like a movie and more like a terrifying documentary.

The premise? Simple. Two meddling, puppet-master grandmothers decide that their grown, fully functional adult grandchildren—Sahra and Deniz—are taking far too long to populate the family tree. So, naturally, instead of sending a link to a dating app or just letting them live, the grannies stage a full-blown syndicate operation.

Enter the classic conspiracy. The grandmothers pull out the ultimate, unbeatable weapon in the guilt-trip arsenal: faking medical emergencies. Because nothing sets the mood for a romantic meet-cute quite like the sudden threat of imminent organ failure.

Sahra (an ambitious magazine editor and very beautiful woman which reminds me Aishwarya Rai a bit ) and Deniz (a brooding, mysterious photographer who looks like he’s perpetually posing for a denim ad) rush to the rescue, only to realize they’ve been duped. The grandmas aren't dying; they're just dying to plan a wedding.

What follows is an absolute parade of clichés:

  • The "I-Can't-Stand-You" Phase: Sahra literally throws a motorcycle helmet through a window in panic, and the two immediately start bickering like a divorced couple who forgot where they parked.

  • The Granny Blackmail: The old ladies force them to exchange plates of food, practically shoving them into the same room with the subtlety of a wrecking ball.

  • The Hired Goons Backfire: In one of the most absurd subplots, the grannies actually hire two random men to "harass" Sahra so Deniz can play the knight in shining armor. Except Sahra beats the fake attackers up herself, sending all four of them straight to a police cell. Exceptional grandmother tactics right there.

The movie tries to convince us that fate, childhood trauma, and picturesque coastal views brought these two together. But let’s be honest: they didn't fall in love because of cosmic destiny. They fell in love because they realized resistance was futile and these two scheming matriarchs would sooner fake their own demises five more times than let them leave Assos single.

If you like gorgeous scenery, brooding model-photographers, and the horrifying reality that your grandmother is always four steps ahead of you, Sen İnandır is a fun, mindless watch. Just make sure to check your grandma's pulse before rushing home next time

Rating  9  for my 50+ aged wife who seen it 4 times on the  20s and again now!!
