Heart of the beast - 2026
A Tear-Jerking Survival Story with a Four-Legged Star
Some films you watch. Some films you feel. And some films — like Heart of the Beast — you carry with you long after the credits roll. This one will stay with me forever.
It's one of the best surprises of the year, alongside the Italian La Vita è Così. A story of a lonely warrior and his dog, Odin, trying to find a way out of the wilderness. From the very first scene I saw Odin, I loved him. Just the way he held his body, you understood he had something to tell you.
A journey with his master, Brad Pitt, through incredible places and stunning landscapes, trying to find an exit until they finally reach a main road. All the places they passed included two hidden mountains and seas, with great difficulties everywhere. A long journey of survival.
The film's heaviest weight fell on Odin — the dog who led his master. The cinematography is stunning, capturing unbelievable mountains and seas. 9/10 for the visuals alone.
Some scenes must have been CGI — the wolves, for example. The images didn't feel entirely realistic. But the pacing, though it may have been slow, felt absolutely fitting for the story.
A pure tear-jerker.
From me: 12/10!
Final Thoughts
Heart of the Beast is not a perfect film. But it's a film with a heart so big it fills the screen. Brad Pitt is good. The dog is unforgettable. And the journey — through mountains, seas, and the depths of survival — is one you won't soon forget.
If you see it, you'll understand. And if you don't, you're missing one of the most memorable dogs in cinema history.
And yes — the dog doesn't die. But you will cry.
