Newness radio amateur and listeners pocket book
Steve Money
This is a pocket size book with all the basic information (say rather as index )a radio amateur is required to know and was onw of my top reference books for the older times I have been as a systematic radio listener (80’s? )
Its size is just 7 x 15 cm and includes the following chapters :
- Radio freqs : band names, wavelength band names micro wave band designations CCITT regions , freq allocations , emission designations ,
- Amateur radio (licensing in USA , UK , examinations , Morse test , morse code and timing , practice , amateur radio bands in UK , UK amateur bands Fm simplex channels , repeaters CB radio channels )
- Digital communication , : radio teletype RTTY , Baudot code (the main code used for RTTY ) with diagram and analysis , control sequences as ZCZC , SITOR [simplex] and AMTOR [amateur RTTY ] , the ARQ mode [auto repeat request ] te FEC [foqorwar4d error control ie broadcast ] ASCII RTTY , control code functions , baud rates , emission techniques as eg 170Hz used for amateur , amateur BBS , packet radio etc
- Radio fax and SSTV (slow scan TV )
- Utility stations /services : press tty , press fax , meteo , aircraft bands & terminology , maritime radio (incl freqs )maritime terms
- Space communications : sat parameters and terms . geo sats, amateur sats , communication transponders ,sat band plans , set telemetry , and satellites : UOSAT . Fuji , Russian weathersats , spacecraft comms , satt TV
- Radio propagation techniques : ground wave , the ionosphere, MUF , skip distance , HF band characteristics , prop beacons , horizon to horizon distance , tropo , diffraction , aurora effects
- On operation data there are prefix allocations , country listing , CQ DX zones , ITU zones , standard freq transmissions , world times (GMT + hour )SINPO and SINPFEMO codes in plain text , phonetic alphabet and figures , amateur Q codes , QTH locator bu maidenhead system
- Basic antenna information : impedance , polar diagram , polarization, gain , dipole and variants , Marconi , ground plane , loops , beams, yagis , transmission lines , waveguides , velocity factor , VSWR , balloons ,
- Transmitters
- Receivers : superhets , images , double conversion , wadley , signal strength , sensitivity , selectivity ,
- Components
And some useful bibliography
