Friends with Money:

A Tedious Exploration of Affluent Boredom

Rating: 4 / 10

Friends with Money is a decidedly boring film that completely failed to excite me, spark my interest, or evoke even a single moment of genuine emotion. If anything, it honestly felt even more foolish, shallow, and insufferable than Sex and the City 2.

The narrative revolves around the lives and interpersonal dynamics of a close-knit circle of affluent women in Los Angeles, dealing with the trivial anxieties of wealth, marriage, and career stagnation. Yet, the execution lacks any meaningful narrative drive or structural coherence. The characters drift aimlessly through their privileged daily routines, grappling with self-inflicted and petty problems that leave the audience wondering where the point of the story actually lies. Instead of offering sharp social satire or insightful character studies, the script meanders aimlessly, resulting in a tedious viewing experience from start to finish.

The film features a notable ensemble cast, most notably highlighted by our beloved Greek-American star Jennifer Aniston, who portrays a struggling, unmotivated woman working as a maid while navigating her complicated personal life. While Aniston tries her best to inject some natural charm and grounded vulnerability into her role, she is ultimately let down by flat dialogue and an underwritten character arc. The rest of the star-studded cast similarly goes through the motions, failing to salvage scenes that drag on with repetitive banter and unengaging domestic squabbles.

Ultimately, Friends with Money lacks the wit, emotional resonance, and sharp chemistry required to sustain a modern comedy-drama of this scale. It presents itself as a perceptive look at modern friendships and economic disparities among friends, but it merely skims the surface of human behavior without ever saying anything profound. Unless you are an absolute die-hard fan of the cast and refuse to miss any of their filmography, this is a slow, unrewarding watch that you can easily skip without missing a thing.
