TIF - In'sia & M'sia - some short stories

This is a concise story about I’nsia/M’sia's presentation at the local Trade Fair in Thessaloniki (TIF). It also includes a brief description of my personal experience at the event.

TIF Exhibition, Early 2000s:

During the early 2000s, I visited the TIF exhibition with a cousin. We had a very fruitful discussion with the Indonesian exhibitors and later communicated with a few of them via Facebook.

TIF Exhibition, 2010:

Around 2010, my wife and I were at the TIF exhibition when we encountered a small group of Indonesians in a canteen located outside one of the pavilions. We joined them for a friendly musical discussion and even sang the well known  dangdut* song "Gubuk Derita" together. This surprised the other patrons who were present in the nearby tables.

TIF Exhibition ard 2022:

The Indonesian consulate had a booth at the TIF exhibition. This time, they collaborated with an Indonesian woman living in Thessaloniki.

TIF Exhibition 2024:

The Indonesian ambassador participated in the TIF exhibition this year in Thessaloniki. Their booth, located in pavilion number 8, showcased teak products offered through a local importer and producer. FYI on the 90s or on ealry00s I also tried to do that as a mediator to anyone interested directly from Malaysia . For unknown reasons, there was no result in this endeavour.

Long-standing Participation:

Indonesia has consistently participated in the TIF exhibition for at least 20 years, either through the embassy or through local sellers. This demonstrates their commitment to promoting trade and cultural exchange with Greece.

Additional Participation:

In 1995, Malaysia also participated in the TIF exhibition with a shared booth for 10 sellers. I had the opportunity to serve them as unofficial translator. Around 1 week of duration.

Cultural Performance:

Many years ago, I was invited to a local theatre where a group of dancers performed traditional dances from Java, including Gamelan and Sunda styles in an ex-cinema which later continues as an experimental theatre stage. Possibly before the 2k times.

 * dangdut is a former folky type music style if the 90s . More recently it is becoming as a close to house style with many other branches . If you need more info, please look here. for a visual  history
